The purpose of this course is to apply scientific principles towards behavior change. Although you will learn about the principles in class, I feel it is important for you to also have experience with literature associated within the field of behavior analysis. Therefore, each of you will be required to conduct a literature review on one of the topics that we discuss in the course.
When researching your topic, please try to focus on behavioral journals and book chapters. Possible sources include: Behavioral Medicine, Behavior Modification, Behavior Therapy, Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis (JABA), Journal of Behavioral Medicine, Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior (JEAB), Learning & Motivation, The Behavior Analyst, Research in Developmental Disabilities, the Analysis of Verbal Behavior, Journal of Organizational Behavior Management, Behavior Analysis in Practice, and Behavioral Interventions. If you choose to use other journals or books than those above, please be sure that the articles and chapters are behavior analytic in nature. If you have any questions about whether a source is appropriate or not, just ask!
Your paper must cover a novel topic for you and not be the reformulation of a paper written for another purpose (e.g., an introduction to an independent study, a paper for another class, etc.). Your final paper should be double-spaced with 1” margins all around, using Times New Roman 12pt. font. The paper should be completed in APA format and should have approximately 10-15 pages of textual material. The grading rubric is posted under the “Modules” tab. Please reference the rubric when developing your paper in order to write the best literature review possible. The paper will be worth 200 points.
