I mainly understood that it is best for the project manager to be able to The main element of competency of the project manager is to be able to gain a complete understanding of the project management stages. It is important to be able to organize the projects as they are able to move forward without any real hitches. Each of these phases of the cycle is based on the goal-orientation that needs to be reviewed towards the end of the project management steps. In this process, the project management is about the work that needs to be achieved, about the project deliverables, people involved in the project team, and about the ways for the monitoring and also the performance of each of the phases of the project that needs to be considered. I understood how to use this knowledge and be able to create a holistic determination about the processes.

About this week:

The phases of the project include the initiation phase, the planning phase, the implementation phase, and the closing phase. In this, the initiation phase is about the role where the project sponsor will be identified, and all the scope and the deliverables will be clearly defined. This is the phase where the budget of the program will be typically approved. It is important to be basically aware of the project stakeholders. Define each of the stakeholders and ensure that there is clarity in the determination of these findings. It is also important to be able to develop a business case and be able to cater to the needs of the people that need to be derived.

The planning phase is when the deliverables are clearly defined, and it is based on the deliverables. This is based on the work breakdown structure and the work packages.

The next phase is the implementation phase. This is when the project team is hired and also developed. These procurements are seen to take place, and there needs to be communication with the stakeholders who are considered to be important for the ongoing activity of the project.

The closing phase is about the reporting, closing out the procurements, and also used for the final payments. It is important to note that these elements will be based on the project requirement.

Finally, it is important to be able to document each of these requirements to be able to cater to future requirements or goals (Layton, Ostermiller & Kynaston, 2020). These are some of the important factors that need to be considered. It is imperative for the people to be able to cater to the requirement of the people. It is these factors that will lead towards better quality and goals of the project. These are the main theories that I was able to learn from this week (Lock, 2020).

Discussion 2

Chapter 3 explains about the project life cycle which is the sequence of phases which all the project goes through from initiation to end. It is determined by the management and multiple different factors like the type of project, organization and kind of application used. All the phases have different start and end dates and they can be changed as per the situation. Project lifecycle provides the foundation of actions or framework which need to be performed by the project. Project Managers do the research and find out the best process to run the projects and find success. Project lifecycles can be predictive or adaptive, in predictive the objective are finalized at the start of the project and no changes are done in the scope. Whereas, in adaptive lifecycle product is completed in multiple iterations and scope is defined at the beginning of each alteration. All the projects are different in most of the aspects but they all follow the same framework of the lifecycle which have following phases:

  • Initiation Phase – It is the starting phase of the project which defines the scope and goal of the project. Project charter is created by the Project Manager in this phase and finalizes the project requirement with the stakeholders. This stage also defines what a project should achieve. Project Manager collects all the information about the project and enter into the project charter and once it is approved then project becomes sanctioned. Project charter contains information like goals, stakeholder data, budget, milestone, approvals, project statements and constraints.
  • Planning Phase – The next phase is the project planning phase where fifty percent of the work is done where solution of the product is done in detailed manner so that the objective of the project is achieved. In this phase, project plan is been created by the project manager which includes the details of the tasks, dependencies, activity and timeframes. Project budget is also outlined in this phase which are required for the resources like employees, material, equipment and costs. This budget is used for monitoring and controlling the expenses of all the resources throughout the product development. In this phase, project manager also predicts and document all the risk associated with the project in order to reduce the impact on the project it may give. This is known as risk management which is the most important part of this phase. These risks are also shared with the stakeholders and communication plan is been created which contains all the data about how the product will be delivered.
  • Execution Phase – This phase includes where all the development of the product is done as per the project management plan. This phase also includes coordinating with the (Change Request), Assets process, enterprise environmental factors and project management plan. Whereas provides five important outputs which includes: work performance data, change requests, deliverables project plan and document updates.
  • Closing Phase – After the execution phase where all the development and testing is completed comes the monitoring and closing phase in order to check if the project is on the correct track or not. This phase includes reviewing, tracking and regulating progress of the project in order to meet the objective. This phase focuses on the final delivery of the product to the customer and sharing the documents like Change request, project documents and project management plans with the stakeholders.
