English Question

You will write a paper on your choice of one of the ethical issues listed by your instructor (see below). Discuss your perspective on the issue, supporting your arguments with the ethical thinking of one or more of the philosophers covered in this course.

In Module 5, each student is expected to submit their Essay Outline (rough first draft) by Tuesday, November 16, 2021. This includes the following:

  • Essay topic (chosen ethical issue) from choices below
  • Summary of student’s ethical perspective on the issue (one paragraph)
  • Ethical theory or theories students will use to support arguments in the essay and how they do so (one paragraph)
  • Four sources that will be cited. Make sure they follow the below guidelines. Sources need to be listed in bibliography or Works Cited page format (students will not get credit if sources are listed as only URL’s).

Submit your Essay Outline (rough first draft) in the designated area in Module 5 by Tuesday, November 16, 2021. This assignment is worth 20 points.

You must submit your Essay Outline, have it done thoroughly and correctly and on time, have the instructor give feedback on your progress for the paper and suggestions for your final draft, and have it scored by the instructor in order to get any points for the final version or draft of the Essay Paper. In other words, if you don’t do the Essay Outline (rough first draft), you will get no points for the final version or draft of the Essay Paper. Moreover, you are not allowed to change your topic or your sources from the Essay Outline (rough first draft) to the final version or draft of the Essay Paper.

The final draft and version of the Essay Paper is due during Module 7 on Sunday, December 5, 2021. Essays must be submitted in the designated area in Module 7.

The final draft of the essay must be 5 to 6 pages in length, typed, double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman or Arial font. APA or MLA format needs to be used. The pages must have 1-inch margins all around. Cover and sources pages do not count as the body of the 5 to 6 page essay.

Use at least FOUR sources; at least two sources need to be peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles and one needs to be a book. All of the sources need to be accessed from the Ivy Tech Virtual LibraryLinks to an external site.. The textbook or Web materials may also be cited as sources, but please do not cite Wikipedia or similar information sites, such as dictionaries or encyclopedias (or such as Ask.com or About.com), or handbooks. These are not academic sources.

Sources need to be cited in the paper, preferably with in-text citations. If you were taught to do end notes or foot notes, you may use them instead. All cited sources then need to be listed in the bibliography or Works Cited page.

The essay is worth 100 points.

  • Physician Assisted Suicide or Death with Dignity Laws
