The CAFR Project provides you the opportunity to analyze a Governmental Financial Statements. You will obtain the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and answer questions regarding the application of concepts studied in your Governmental Accounting course.

The CAFR Project consists of six assignments and is designed to be a useful supplement for this government course. The following is a list of the topics covered in each CAFR Project assignment:

OBTAINING THE FINANCIAL ANALYSIS

Obtain the most recent Financial statements of any of the US Cities or States is the first step in this project. That information is public; so, it should be easy to find it in the internet. Examples of Cities here in Southwest are:

• City of Naples
• City of Fort Myers

The completion of your CAFR Analysis project assignments will be easier if you obtain a printed copy of the City Comprehensive Financial Statements.

1.Choosing a CAFR

Choose City or State in which you are interested. Perhaps the city has been featured in the news lately. Perhaps you were born or live in that City or State.

• Identify the state you are examining and provide the exact URL of the web page from which you downloaded the CAFR (copy-and-paste the URL, do not type; then test the URL to be sure it opens correctly). What is the most recent fiscal year (and indicate the last date of the fiscal year)? Also indicate the date the CAFR was published and the name of the Chief Executive Officer of the state (the governor).
