Causal Proposal Remix
Causal-proposal remix
Multimodality refers to compositions that
combine various media and genres to achieve a rhetorical purpose, in this case
converting a causal proposal paper you already wrote, into a different mode
or combination of modes that presents it effectively.
In other words, I’m asking
you to remix your essay into another medium/genre, for example, a brochure,
infographic, photo essay, blog, social media page (e.g., Twitter or Tumblr), email
exchange, podcast, narrated or animated video, comic/manga, board game, etc.
Your choice of medium and genre should be
rhetorically based, meaning that you put some thought into why a particular
medium and genre makes the most sense for your purpose and audience. You
should NOT choose a medium/genre based on “wow” factor or because it seems
easiest. (No PowerPoint or Prezi, please.)
You will justify your rhetorical choices in
a short, written reflection called “Rhetorical rationale” (to be assigned later) that
will accompany your multimodal remix when you turn it in.
Your remix presentation will be assessed using the following rubric:
Multimodal project grading rubric

organization, and/or use of appropriate tools.
3

organization, and/or use of appropriate tools.
2
Demonstrates limited but acceptable mastery of content, knowledge of rhetorical
principles, organization, and/or use of appropriate tools.
1

organization, and/or use of appropriate tools.
THIS IS NOT DUE UNTIL JULY 31ST BUT I DO HAVE TO SUBMIT THE IDEA OR CONCEPT BY THURSDAY, JULY 25TH TO GET OKAY FROM INSTRUCTOR.
EXAMPLES:
-I’m going to remix my paper on kidney disease into a tri-fold brochure that could be handed out at a health fair.
-I’m going to remix my paper on gaming and violence into a game-play video where me and my friend discuss the topics in my paper over a pre-recorded game play.
-My essay was about how fracking is misunderstood. I want to make a board game where players move forward by answering questions about fracking correctly, and you win by reaching the goal of understanding the truth about fracking.
-I plan to turn my essay on racism into a manga-style booklet.
-I’m going to make a twitter feed based on my essay about food waste. I’ll make a lot of tweets containing different information from my paper.
-I’m going to record my essay on marketing as an NPR-style podcast.
