Help on Literature Assignment on Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde needed ASAP by tomorrow
Write a four to five-page critical essay on one of the works we will study this semester chosen from the list below. The due date of the essay will depend on the work you choose. Your essay should address the following:
1) How does the work you have chosen incorporate ONE of the Gothic motifs we reviewed at the beginning of the semester (see the handout, “Introduction to Gothic Motifs” in the Course Documents section of Blackboard)? What is the thematic or symbolic significance of this motif within the work? Analyze at least one example from the text for support.
2) How does this work’s use of the selected motif compare to the appearance of the motif in another work we previously studied? Do the authors use the motif in different ways to achieve different thematic goals?
3) Optional: How does this work’s use of the selected motif compare to the appearance of the motif in another Gothic text of your choice (story, novel, movie, TV show, graphic novel, etc.)?
On the day we study your selected work in class, I’ll ask you to briefly share the ideas you’re planning for your essay. Also note, although no research is required for this assignment, this essay can serve as the basis for your research project at the end of the semester if you wish. The course paper should be a 6-8-page critical treatment of one or more of the works we’ve read this semester with regard to a specific theme, motif, or character type we have discussed. If you wish, you may compare the work you have chosen to another literary text or a work in another medium (film, music, television, comics, paintings, etc.) that incorporates similar themes, motifs, or characters. The paper should offer your critical interpretation of the topic you have chosen, supported by textual evidence from the work(s) (specific examples and passages from the works) and material from secondary research sources. What is the thematic or symbolic significance of the motif within the work(s) you have chosen? If you are comparing two or more works, do the works use the motif in different ways to achieve different thematic goals? You may use your ENG 343 essay on a Gothic motif as the foundation for your research project if you wish.
